SpamGuard-AI
SMS spam classification
An NLP project that labels SMS messages as spam or legitimate. I built it to work through the full machine learning workflow, from raw data to a working prediction.
I'm a Software Engineer
Hi, I'm Shifani. I'm a fourth-year Software Engineering student, and AI is the thing I keep coming back to. I like building things that work, then working out how to make them smarter. Have a look around.
A Software Engineering student with a serious soft spot for AI.
I'm Shahila Shifani, a fourth-year BSc (Hons) Software Engineering undergraduate at Saegis Campus. Software engineering taught me how to build things the right way. AI is what makes me want to keep building.
My main interest is Artificial Intelligence, especially Machine Learning, NLP, Generative AI, Large Language Models and AI-powered applications. I enjoy looking at a real problem and asking, "Could AI make this easier?" Sometimes the answer is yes. Sometimes it's a very educational no.
Right now I'm learning by doing: projects, research, self-study and a healthy amount of experimenting. I'm looking for internships in AI/ML, AI research and development, Software Engineering and Data Science.
BSc (Hons) in Software Engineering at Saegis Campus, currently in Year 4.
AI, Machine Learning, NLP, Generative AI, LLMs and AI-powered applications.
AI/ML first, with Software Engineering, Data Science and AI research all on the map.
I break big problems into small steps, read, experiment, and improve as I go.
What I can bring to an internship team.
I'm actively building my knowledge in AI, Machine Learning, NLP, Generative AI and LLM-based applications.
I work on practical projects to see how software and AI ideas can solve real problems.
I like exploring problems, reading about new technologies, trying ideas out and learning through research.
I'm happy to learn unfamiliar tools, sharpen my technical skills and take responsibility for the tasks I'm given.
I enjoy breaking complex problems into smaller steps and finding practical solutions.
There's always something new to learn. I keep improving through projects, technical communities, courses and certifications.
If your company is looking for someone like me — an AI-focused Software Engineering undergraduate who is curious, willing to learn, and ready to contribute — just DM.
Study, training and the software projects I've worked on. Each item is labelled so it's clear what kind of work it was.
Built backend CRUD operations and MySQL integration in PHP, added JavaScript and REST API features, supported administrative workflows, and did functional testing and debugging.
Responsive front-end layouts, faculty landing pages and reusable UI components, plus support on the admin panel (PHP, Laravel, JavaScript, Bootstrap, MySQL). Collaboration through Git and GitHub.
Seven projects, each with its real status. "In Development" and "Planned" mean exactly that. Dashed buttons are links I haven't added yet.

AI-powered resume analysis
A resume analyser that compares a resume with a job description and shows which skills match and which are missing.
RAG document assistant
A Retrieval-Augmented Generation assistant I'm building: upload a PDF, ask questions, and get answers grounded in the document. It's the project where I'm learning embeddings and vector search properly.
Sales performance analytics
A dashboard idea for looking at sales, revenue and profit by month, year, region and product category. Planned, not started yet.
Exploratory data analysis
An exploratory analysis of student exam scores: cleaning the data, comparing groups, and finding which factors go along with higher scores. It's an analysis project, and predictive modelling is a next step I haven't built yet.
Python and Power BI
An analysis of customer shopping data to understand purchasing patterns and spending trends, finished with an interactive Power BI dashboard.
HR data analysis
An analysis of employee data to see where attrition happens across departments, job roles and employee characteristics, presented in a Power BI dashboard.
Undergraduate research I've worked on or presented.
Research area: AI for career guidance, Generative AI
Looking at how AI-driven approaches could recommend careers based on a student's skills, interests and academic background, and how Generative AI and prompt engineering could make guidance more personal.
Research area: Human-Computer Interaction, usability
A user-centred look at usability, accessibility and website interaction quality in Sri Lankan digital services.
Research area: Cryptography, cybersecurity
A study of how RSA encryption uses prime numbers to protect data in secure digital banking.
Grouped by capability, with a separate area for what I'm still learning and no percentage bars.
Learning now
Basic familiarity
Completed credentials are kept apart from things I'm still working on.
Google Machine Learning Crash Course, Google Cloud AI and skill badges, AI for Everyone (DeepLearning.AI), Microsoft Learn Azure Fundamentals path, Prompt Engineering Basics, Introduction to Git.
Presented research on RSA encryption and online banking security.
Presented an HCI research abstract.
24-hour Agile-style team sprints building working prototypes.
Communities and organisations I learn and grow with.
A student community for learning and sharing technology, with a focus on Microsoft and AI programmes. It's a community membership, not a Microsoft job.
Member of the GDG community, learning alongside other developers in Sri Lanka.
Member of the AIESEC chapter at Saegis Campus, a youth-led organisation focused on leadership and global exchange.
Member of Women Techmakers, Google's community that supports women in technology.
Contributions focused on testing, documentation, SDK examples and CI.
Merged pytest edge-case unit tests (empty event sequences, duplicate action compression) and ActionClassifier regression tests, and added Google-style docstrings.
Merged a Node.js SDK quickstart example (identity creation, request signing and verification) and a Python CI workflow improvement using GitHub Actions and Ruff.
Questions, ideas or opportunities are all welcome.
